Tablescape Thursday #10

This week’s inspiration came not from a set of dishes, nor the perfect table, not glassware, flatware, or centerpiece. This week’s inspiration came from a special piece of furniture that just arrived in the store.

To work this piece of furniture into a tablescape, we decided to have a little tea party!
Here we have our silver plate tea set, earthenware creamer and sugar, silverware and red and white transferware ready to go on a coffee table. (Maybe it should be a “tea table” in this case! No, this isn’t the inspiration piece.)

Here’s a little closer view of the tea service. So classy!

It’s so much fun to mix and match patterns! As many collectors already know, it can be so much fun to group similar items as opposed to same items.

And here’s a mirrored-back buffet being used for it’s originally intended purpose. No, it’s not the inspiration piece.

Don’t you just love these old transferware grill plates? The cut glass decanter and biscuit jar add just enough sparkle. The old mirrored tray keeps everything tidy.

Here’s the entire room vignette. Here’s just another example of A Classy Flea living up to our name! I would like to thank Patricia (VON) and Connie (CAT) for assembling today’s tablescape. I would also like to thank Barb (B) for sharing her space and sofa for today’s photo shoot. I apologize to all of the dealers whose pieces were used as I have misplaced the notes with names and prices for each of the pieces.  We all hope you enjoyed this very nontraditional tablescape from all of the dealers at A Classy Flea.

Tablescape Thursday #9

Thanks for joining us for our sixth Tablescape Thursday. We have had the best time over the last month and a half putting these together! Be sure to visit our good friend Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for links to all of the other tablescapes this week.

Okay, we’re going formal today! First off, I have to thank Laura (LRA) for the use of her table and allowing us to set up in her space, and Patricia (VON) who assisted in creating the tablescape. As always, you can click on any picture to see a larger view.

Sometimes, you see a piece and you just want to show it off! That’s the case with today’s inspiration piece.
This is a samovar (tea urn), most likely from the 1820’s. It is not marked, but that was often the case in that time period. This dates prior to electroplate so is most definitely cold-rolled Sheffield Plate. What is also unusual about this one is it still has the original coal chimney inside.

You can’t have an antique tea urn without some teacups, can you? I found this silver trimmed set made by Royal Sutherland along with a creamer and covered sugar by Red Cliff .

I wanted to keep the place setting simple, yet elegant.
The salad plate and dinner plate are sitting on a silver plate charger. Cut glass stemware and sterling flatware complete the place settings.

Tablescape Thursday #8

First, I’d like to thank Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for being our gracious host for Tablescape Thursday. If you didn’t get here from there, please be sure to click on the link and see her tablescape and then go on and look at the others that are participating this week!

Unlike last week when I couldn’t find a table to use for a tablescape, the dealers have come through (again) and I had several to choose from. What caught my eye this week was a table set up in JO’s space just about ready to go, as-is. JO, like so many of our dealers, presents her merchandise beautifully, so very little enhancement was required. VON assisted me in adding a centerpiece and straightening the background. So, here we go…

This week’s table transitions quickly from an afternoon brunch right into a game table.
The dishes are by HomeTrends in the “Jazz” pattern. This earthy striped patterned set is placed on bamboo placemats surrounding a small topiary tree and a chess board. In the background you can see a coordinating woven screen and rustic ladder. And you’ve got to love that old pottery jug!

Tablescape Thursday #7

Hey! We’re back after being away for a couple of months. I want to thank everyone who has been patiently checking back to see if we’ve posted anything new. To be perfectly honest, the blog has taken a back seat while we tended the store and produced a new website. Our dealers have been working overtime trying to keep ahead of all all of our loyal customers. Our sales are way up over last year and we appreciate each and every one of you. Yes, I am lucky to be able to walk through the entire store, searching for inspirations to guide me on my tablescape. As I was walking through the store yesterday (Tuesday) I saw 2 different tables that would be perfect. When I came in today to take pictures, they were sold, and gone! Both of them! So, starting over today, I was really getting stumped because we have sold so many tables recently. What I did come across, though, was a set of old china stacked in one of the china cabinets. Here was my inspiration! (you can click on any of the pictures to see enlarged views.)This is Crown Ducal Ware in the A1476 pattern. More on the china later.

I found this crystal glassware in another cabinet. Four different sizes and I don’t know what each are used for. It may even be inappropriate to mix these but it only matters how they look. And they look marvelous!

The “tablecloth” is actually an antique net lace bed cover I found in the office. I just thought it looked neat with the old china.

This old marble scale with the fruit was just the perfect accent, pulling out the colors in the china and also echoing the fruit in the pattern.

Not bad for a techy type guy!

After I first assembled the table, one of the dealers said “I have the perfect rug!” So, we disassembled the tablescape, moved the table to the rug and put it back together. And, yes, the rug does complement the china.

One of the interesting things about this china is even though it was purchased from the same person (it was her Grandmother’s), and all of the pieces are of the same pattern, there are actually three different marks found on the back. Crown Ducal was actually a trade name for the A. G. Richardson and Company, Ltd. This pottery was founded in 1915 in Tunstall, in the Staffordshire area of England. The mark on the top left dates to around 1925, while the mark on the top right was used beginning in 1932. The lower mark was not introduced until the late 1940’s, but you can clearly see the 1476 pattern number on the two more recent marks.
